Scotland Suffered A Heartbreaking Defeat To Hungary In A Uefa Euro 2024 Qualifier

Scotland have the mentality and capability to make history, says John McGinn

Scotland suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Hungary in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier

But midfielder John McGinn remains optimistic

Scotland's hopes of creating history at Euro 2024 were ended by an agonising stoppage-time defeat to Hungary on Tuesday night. Steve Clarke's side had taken the lead through Ryan Christie but were pegged back by Hungary in the second half and ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

It was a cruel blow for Scotland who had played well and deserved at least a point. But McGinn is refusing to let the defeat get him down and is confident that Scotland can bounce back and qualify for the tournament.

"We are all disappointed with the result," McGinn said. "But we have to pick ourselves up and go again. We have a lot of quality in this squad and we believe that we can still make history.

"We showed against Hungary that we can compete with the best teams in Europe. We just need to be more clinical in front of goal and we will start to get the results we deserve.

"I believe that we have the mentality and the capability to prove people wrong and make history. We will keep fighting until the end and we will give everything we have to qualify for Euro 2024."
